Back from Japan

Hi everyone!
We're back from a very exciting and wonderful trip to Japan.
The Bergans' showed us a fabulous time.
Most of the pictures are in the online photo gallery.
A couple times we forgot to charge our camera battery and so borrowed the Bergans' camera. I will add those when I get them.

Time out for old friends

Some of you know or remember my best friend from NYCBallet, Dana.
Well, she came on a business trip with her husband, Niall, to SF and while he was busy at his cocktail tours and conferences, Dana, Attie and I got to hang out.
She came down on Thursday morning and I made her run birthday party errands with me. Then we just sat in the back yard and chatted. Kind of like old times, except we weren't in a dressing room, sweaty, exhausted, scantily clad, and covered in stage make-up.

She spent the night at our house and I took her back to the train on Friday morning. On Saturday, after Attie's party we went to SF to have dinner with her and Niall. Here we are after dinner at the rotating rooftop restaurant. WE had drinks over two rotations.
Dana, it was great to have you all to myself and catch up on NY news. Hope you're having a good Saratoga so far. You know I'm wishing for all of your hopes to come true!

Terry's Birthday

Terry's birthday, otherwise known as The 4th of July was a big one...35!!!
We stayed in most of the day and he opened presents.
Later, we had a BBQ with our great friend Julie. Fireworks started early as I set the chicken on the grill, as well as the grill itself, on fire! We ended the day catching the actual local fireworks.

Attie's BDay party

Atticus had her 4 year birthday party last weekend. It was a carnival theme and we had it in our back yard. I'm realizing now I took more video than pictures but here are some.
We had close to fifteen of her classmates and their parents. It was a very smooth and festive party with the exception of one unfortunate bee sting :(
The food was picnic-y and we rented a popcorn machine and sno-cone maker.
We had a young girl giving glitter tattoos, a bean bag toss, a bowling game, a fishing for sunken treasure booth, all with prizes. Also, I made these cardboard cutouts for photo opportunities.
Recognize these kids?

You can see more pics from the party and other events in the online photo gallery.

Father's Day

Father's Day was lots of fun! Attie gave Terry special Father's Day projects that she made at school. She also chose on her own to give him a green T-Shirt and some of the candy that they always steal from the Brach's bin at the grocery store. Terry was touched that she considered the candy special between them and thought to give it to him as a gift.

We went to an amusement park about an hour south of us called Bonfante Gardens. It's a horticulture-based park with beautiful landscaping and mild rides with a flower, fruit or vegetable theme. Although the rides were mild, they were still a bit too scary for Attie.

We did ride the train that goes around the park. And Attie drove her own old fashioned car which she loved!

It was a very hot day. While I sat in the shade, Terry and Attie took a ride on the swan paddle boat.

Graduation

Atticus graduated from pre-school to pre-K!!!
Waha had a graduation ceremony and then a performance, follwed by a potluck lunch.

Each child was given a diploma and then each class sang four songs, two in English and two in Mandarin.

Attie's class sang songs in English about the days of the week and the seven continents. And in Mandarin, they sang about friends and butterfly flowers.

Here she is with her classmates in her cap and gown!

We will be sad not to have Miss Flora as her teacher. She was so helpful this year, giving me special treatment as the non-Mandarin speaking parent. She translated all the Chinese homework for me so I would know what the heck Attie was supposed to be learning.

At least Attie will be moving up with all of her classmates that she has come to love!
