Mother's Day Weekend

Mother's Day started on Friday for me. Atticus' class had a Mother's Day Tea. The kids sang four songs; two in English and two in Mandarin. Then one by one, each child presented their mom with this lovely gift, said "Happy Mother's Day," and gave a big hug! After that, the moms stayed for about 20 more minutes and enjoyed pastries and fruit and juice. Wonderful!!!

On Saturday evening, Terry and Attie went Mother's Day shopping AND baked a cake. This picture was taken Sunday morning while Mommy slept in!!!! After reading the beautiful homemade cards from Attie and Terry, opening the gift and enjoying a piece of the prettiest and most delicious cake, we were off to Attie's performance...

Attie's school was invited to perform at this Asian Community Fair. We thought she was going to sing her Mother's Day songs and be done. I guess not enough of the after-school dance class showed up, so Attie was a stand in and she did amazing! She had never seen any of the movements and noone would have known! She followed along perfectly, well almost :0) That's her on the far left for those of you who haven't seen her in a while.

It was a very hot day so we hung out in the shade for a bit and then went home for lunch. The day ended with a trip to our favorite sushi place. It was a great Mother's Day weekend filled with lots of special gifts from my amazing husband and incredible daughter! P.S. Check out the Online Photo Gallery for more pics of the weekend, including the making of the cake and more of Attie in her tutu!

Fun stuff

It's been a little bit since I've blogged, sorry addicts.
We went to a little party and met three kids who had tie dyed shirts on. We got inspired and each of us made a shirt. Attie designed hers and Terry and I helped her execute it.
The mom of the three told us she does it once a year, I now know why...very messy, but lots of fun!
Unfortunately, Terry could not be in the photo, his shirt turned out very groovy! He gave it to Attie for a nightshirt.

Sneak preview

Friday was portrait day at Waha Montessori.

Attie happily put on the pretty dress, let me comb her hair for three times as long as I usually do AND she even let me put water on her face to get the dried toothpaste from around her mouth!!!

We decided to call her "Jane" all morning because the dress looks exactly like one Jane is donning in Dick and Jane.

See Jane. Oh,oh,oh. Pretty, pretty Jane.

I was able to stay at school for Attie's photo session. She completely hammed it up. She even helped the photographer out by coming up with her own poses.

Pictures will be ready in 2-3 weeks.

ps to Sandy, I obsessively ironed this dress, especially the collar ,the night before per your warning, "You better not let her wear that dress out of the house without ironing it."

Need more photos???

What? The blog is not quite satisfying your cravings for pictures of the cutest Ahearn? OK, I have added a link over there on the left which will take you to our online photo gallery. There you will see all the photos (like this one) which did not make it onto the blog. I will place a new album in the collection at the end of every month (that's not a promise.)

Gardening for Dummies

Late last summer Tomoko gave me these irises. I can't believe how they've multiplied! Well the ones on the right bloomed first and they are sort of brown? I was really disappointed and assumed the Ph of the soil was wrong and all that. Well then the ones on the left opened and they are beautiful and truly purple.
These are chives!!! I noticed they were getting these little bulbs on the tips and of course I thought they must be infected with some bug or something. I was snipping them off...Dummy. I got behind on the snipping for a few days and to my amazement, the bulb opened up to reveal the most stunning little lavender blossom!

Behold! My lone Gardenia. I planted these last summer and they never bloomed??? They barely survived the winter, but started looking really hearty this Spring. It finally occured to me to take a really close look and I realized the snails and slugs were eating the buds! Dummy. So, unfortunately, I had to terminate the cute little slow-pokes with Sluggo and tadaaa. This is the only one so far, but I think we will have a very fragrant entry way soon!!!

Weekend with Daddy

We went back to Happy Hollow this past weekend. Attie was so excited to show Terry where she spent her Spring Break. We had so much fun, the weather was perfect!

Attie really impressed Terry with her feeding of the goats and this time the donkey too!!!

This picture was taken on Sunday at a FCC (Families w/ Children form China) picnic. We hadn't been too one in forever. It was fun. While Mommy was busy chatting it up with the other moms, Terry had Attie doing all sorts of stuff on the playground equipment that she's too cautious to do when it's just her and me.
